Our first series of articles in this section of the website covers a number of specialist areas.
The London-Surrey Cycle Road Race
The London-Surrey cycle race, a trial for the 2012 Olympics, offered residents of Sheen – and others along the route from Central London to Boxhill – a chance to get a first hand experience of what the Olympics will offer. The cycle road races are some of the very few events that are open to the public so, if the turnout for this preliminary event is anything to go by, we should expect a high level of roadside support.
Even at 9.15 am on a Sunday morning the route through Richmond park was lined with supporters for the race. And not only the die hard cycling enthusiasts. Families with their dogs and children mingled with dog walkers, runners and hard core, committed cyclists to cheer on the riders and their entourage of police outriders, team cars and sundry support vehicles.
A great opportunity for some good photographs. Admittedly, those taken by our own reporter were not as good as those taken by other, more expert photographers so we are grateful to Simon Webster for use of his photographs.
Welcome to the first of our series of health and fitness related articles designed to guide, support and encourage you to achieve your goals in all aspects of a healthy and active lifestyle.
We are fortunate to have on board with us, Sheen’s local sports therapist and personal trainer, Martin Felix, who will be writing regular features on sport and fitness issues – and providing you with general advice and guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and getting the most out of your sport.
For our first sport’s issue, Martin has written an article about TRX Suspension training.
This is a complete training system that can be used anywhere. It is effective, portable and is ideal for anyone, whether they are a top athlete or just looking for a way of achieving and maintaining personal fitness.
Martin uses the system himself so you couldn’t get a better recommendation.

Having studied the best players in golf and picked the brains of some of the very best world coaches, David is ideally placed to help those who need to improve their game.
His first article describes his approach to helping a young student, Derek, who was simply trying too hard to get more power in his swing. A misconception about technique had ruined all of Derek’s efforts trying to improve.
David worked with him and showed him how he could really improve and start to enjoy his golf.
