My Sheen Village - Local News and Information - Food and Drink - Lofty Turtle - Cocktails Cocktails created by The Lofty Turtle in East Sheen, the new venue for speciality drinks and casual dining.

The big trends this season are the classic speakeasy cocktails sometimes served with a modern twist. I have selected 2 old classics for the boys and 2 lighter more modern drinks for the girls on Valentines day.

Two cocktails for the boys:

Old fashioned

Add 4 drops of Angostura bitters to a large brown sugar cube and crush in the bottom of a large glass/tumbler.

Add 4 big cubes of ice and then add 30ml of Bourbon Whiskey. For those with a sweeter tooth, I recommend Makers Mark, for the dryer drinker Woodford’s Reserve.

Stir in the bourbon melting the ice. Keep adding ice and another 30ml bourbon. Keep stirring for approx 2-4 mins. Garnish with the oil from an orange rind and a maraschino cherry with the stalk on.

Chairman’s Manhattan (makes 2)

This is a variation of the classic Manhattan, swapping out the Bourbon whiskey for St Lucian Rum – wonderfully complex and smooth – a delight to drink.

Fill 2 martini glasses with ice and leave to chill.

Take a mixing glass and fill with ice.

Add 80ml Chairman’s Reserve Rum add 35ml Lillet Blanc Vermouth and then 25 ml Luxardo maraschino liqueur.

Finally add 5 drops Mozart chocolate.

Stir 30-50 times. Empty the ice out of the martini glasses and pour your Manhattans.

Finally garnish with a twist of lime.

Two cocktails for the girls this Valentines day:

Fleur champagne cocktail

Add 20ml Hibiscus Syrup and 10 ml vodka to the bottom of a chilled champagne glass.

Add champagne and garnish with a candied hibiscus flower.

Ingredients: Wild Hibiscus Flowers In Syrup 1.1Kg

French martini (makes 2)

Fill 2 martini glasses with ice and leave to chill.

Take a cocktail shaker and fill with ice add 80ml Stolichnaya,  40ml Chambord black raspberry liqueur,  50ml pineapple juice.

Shake vigorously.

Empty the ice out of the martini glasses and strain in to the chilled glasses.

Float a raspberry on the foam top of the drink to garnish.
