Richmond residents star in video for 9 to 5: the Musical.
Richmond residents have become stars of the screen in a spoof music video based on Dolly Parton’s smash hit song, 9 to 5.
The video, created by Richmond Theatre, comes as a teaser for the new comedy 9 to 5: The Musical. Inspired by a similar spoof version of I’d Do Anything produced by the Edinburgh Playhouse to celebrate the opening of the musical Oliver! which gained over 2,000 hits on YouTube
The Richmond Theatre team approached various high street businesses, asking them to take a break from their own daily 9 to 5 to help create the video.
Alice Morris, one of the film’s creators:
“We asked everyone from beauticians to estate agents to sing a line for the camera. The reaction was brilliant; so many people were keen to get involved.

9 to 5: The Musical opens on Monday 11 February and centres on three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical bigot of a boss. They conspire to take control of the company and learn in the process that there’s nothing they can’t do. With an all-singing, all-dancing cast including Bonnie Langford, Jackie Clune, Natalie Casey and Amy Lennox performing a 18 original Dolly Parton numbers, the show is sure to have audience members up and dancing in the aisles.
The show will spend a week at Richmond as part of a national tour, which has already drawn in huge audiences around the UK.
Dolly Parton said:
“I am so excited that 9 to 5 the Musical is coming to Richmond. I’m hoping you have as much fun watching it as I had writing the music for it. 9 to 5 the Musical is perfect for anyone that’s ever wanted to string up their boss, which is almost all of us at some time. So come join the fun! “
